Rayon Sports will take on AS Kigali in the semi-finals of the ongoing 2019 Peace Cup tournament after tormenting strugglers Gicumbi in the last eight.
The Blues progressed to the last four with a flying 9-1 win over Camarade Banamwana’s side, having won the first-leg 7-1 in Kigali before taking the decisive encounter 2-0 in Gicumbi.
Stand-in captain Djabel Manishimwe and midfielder Fabrice Mugheni were the scorers in Sunday’s away win.
This is the second time Rayon and AS Kigali are meeting in the tournament. Rayon saw off AS Kigali 4-2 on penalties – after a 1-all draw – in the first round, but the latter also advanced to the round of last-16 as one of the best six losers.
The first match between the two sides will be played on Wednesday, while the return-leg is scheduled for Saturday – both games will be hosted at Kigali Stadium.
In another semi-final; the 2015 winners, Police FC, will be up against hopefuls SC Kiyovu, with the first-leg set for Thursday at Mumena Stadium while Police will host the second-leg at Kicukiro Stadium on Sunday.
Alain Kirasa’s SC Kiyovu stormed into the semi-finals after dominating Intare 5-2 in quarter-finals, despite the two sides playing out a 2-all draw in the return-leg.
AS Kigali and Police reached the last four after eliminating Gasogi United and Etincelles, respectively, on Saturday.
The 2019 Peace Cup winners, who will be determined on July 4, will join league champions Rayon in representing the country in continental football next season.
Should Rayon add the Peace Cup to their league title – for a historic first double, APR will play the CAF Confederation Cup thanks to their second position in the 2018-19 league.
